Performathon 2011

Recap

People's Music School Performathon 2010Think of it as a walkathon on stage or a marathon of songs—this unique event is a spectacular People's Music School tradition and a grassroots fundraiser. Performers of all ages, musical levels and styles solicit donations in order to perform every hour on the hour. This is an outstanding opportunity for our students to play for family and friends, and for audience members to hear many of our wonderful students playing a variety of instruments and musical styles. On April 9, 2011, students and parents were showing their support and commitment to the School’s quality programs through singing, playing and demonstrating their own fundraising skills. Initiated by Rita Simo, the School’s founder 27 years ago, the 2011 Performathon raised more than $14,000 to support the School that we all enjoy and believe in.

Bob Fiedler, Executive Director of the Music School, raved, “It’s so wonderful to see the students themselves go out and bring in much needed dollars to help our School thrive and grow. It’s a testament to the quality and joy of learning that all involved feel about their musical education at The People’s Music School. I could not be prouder of our students.”

Highlights of the day included performances by the Junior Jazz Ensemble, individual instrumentalists and singers—adults, teens and children—and the Cello and Piano Duos. Make sure to mark your calendar for 2012: this event is always held the first Saturday in April and the 28th annual Performathon will be held on April 7, 2012.
