Performathon 2012
The 28th annual People's Music School "Performathon" will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2012, and will feature student performances from 10am to 4pm in our on-site concert hall. The Performathon is free and open to the public.
What is Performathon?
Twenty-five years ago, the People's Music School started this annual event to showcase the progress of our students. Together with their private instructor, each student chooses a piece of music to perform on the day of the Performathon. Fundraising happens when each student finds as many sponsors as possible for his or her performance, as well as from guests. Each student will receive a sponsor sheet to record the names of their sponsors as well as the amount pledged.
Why Do We Have Performathon?
Performathon gives every student a chance to help their school continue its mission of offering high-quality, tuition-free music education. Performathon gives the community another opportunity to attend a concert and to learn about the school, while providing students with the educational experience of public music performance. Also, the dedicated and skilled teachers at the People's Music School are long overdue for a much-deserved raise and Performathon funds will help us achieve the goal of better compensating our talented faculty and bringing them closer to market-rate pay.
